HANDOVER (26th November 1975)
M-ONE and M-TWO stations handed over to RAF Oakhanger

Handover of UK/TSC-500 Stations. The handing over of the two mobile satellite earth stations brought to an end five successful years of their use by the Army. During that time they have been moved some 160 times and have been deployed as far afield as Singapore, Kenya, Diego Garcia, Germany and Northern Ireland. In the past two years they have not been deployed overseas but have been used only as standby equipment for the static earth station at RAF Oakhanger. In view of this and the deterioration resulting from frequent dismantling and moves it was decided that both stations should be handed over to the RAF and kept permanently at Oakhanger. The handover of M-Two was completed on 14th November 1975 and that of M-One on 26th November 1975. A very close association developed over the years between 2 Squadron and the staff of RAF Oakhanger; co-operation was always excellent. – Taken from the 14th Signal Regiment (Force Rear Link) Historical Record

EX DAWN PATROL (12th June – 1st July 1975)
D13/R234 – A Troop in Sardinia working to Forest Moor / Boddington. Capt R D AbbottWO2 (FoS) Sant

Exercise DAWN PATROL. This exercise was a 3rd Commando Brigade exercise in Sardinia during which a D13/R234 detachment was deployed to provide rear link communication into DCN via HMS Forest Moor for the Brigade HQ. The detachment left Worcester on 11th June 1975 and returned on 1st July 1975. Difficulties were experienced with interference on the assigned frequencies and in liaison with the anchor station and so only 64% traffic time was achieved. Nevertheless this was a successful exercise in which the detachment learned many lessons about working under difficult radio conditions with a limited selection of frequencies.  – Taken from the 14th Signal Regiment (Force Rear Link) Historical Record

EX. DASHING IMPACT (27th June – 8th July 1975)

The Regiment produced a D13/R234 detachment to provide a rear link for the United Kingdom Liaison Staff at Vivaro into DCN at Gibraltar. The detachment deployed on 25th June 1975 and retuned on 7th July 1975. After a slow start communications were good and a 75% traffic time was achieved. All members of the detachment spent a day in Venice during the exercise.  – Taken from the 14th Signal Regiment (Force Rear Link) Historical Record

EX INKLING (27th October – 2nd December 1975)

Exercise INKLING. INKLING was a joint communications exercise designed to test and evaluate joint strategic and tactical contingency communications in the general area of the Arabian Sea and entrance to the Persian Gulf. A joint communications force, commanded by Maj A R Seward, was established and deployed to RAF Masirah on 19th October 1975. The exercise ended on 3rd December 1975. In early November, Maj W E A Edmonds took over as Force Commander when Maj A R Seward was sent to Belize on Operation ALLUVIAL. Various communication circuits were provided by phases and a communications diagram is at Annex A. (Shown below – OM)The Regiment provided an E21/R241 detachment and other equipment was provided by 30th Signal Regiment and 38 Group RAF. The two contingency rear link circuits provided by the E21 to Malta and Hong Kong achieved 84% and 86% traffic time respectively. In addition to the communications exercise a program of desert training was undertaken. INKLING was a successful exercise from which much useful training was derived, both in communication and desert survival.  – Taken from the 14th Signal Regiment (Force Rear Link) Historical Record
